With the Nov. 2 elections quickly approaching, many Greenvillians may be wondering what absentee voting looks like this year after COVID-19 changed the rules in 2020.
Last year, any registered voter could cast an absentee ballot as a safety precaution against the spread of COVID-19.
This year, it’s back to normal, meaning only voters who meet certain criterai can vote absentee by mail or in-person at County Square, said Greenville County Voter Registration and Elections director Conway Belangia.
According to the South Carolina State Election Commission website, people who can vote absentee include:
- Members of the military and their spouses and dependents
- Citizens residing overseas
- Physically disabled individuals
- People who will be out of the county they reside in due to school or vacation
- People who cannot make it to the polls due to work on Election Day
- Government employees working outside of the county they reside in
- People 65 years of age or older
- Students attending school outside of their county of residence
Voters who meet the absentee voting criteria may cast their ballots in person Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 1 at County Square Conference Rooms A and B.
