Here is a recap of the Fountain Inn City Council meeting on April 10.
Approved: Impact fee study
Council approved a resolution to request the city’s Planning Commission to conduct a study and make a recommendation regarding the proposed development of impact fees. If the study’s findings support the city needs to implement impact fees, the funds will be used to support services like parks and recreation, police and fire, and other public safety services.
Held over: Funding for outdoor fitness court
Council postponed a vote on a resolution to allocate funds for an outdoor fitness court as part of the 2025 Nationals Fitness Campaign. If the city will provide a local match of $175,000 by June 19, it will receive a $30,000 NFC grant. The city is pursuing a public/private partnership with a local organization to help support its local match contribution, said Assistant City Administrator Russell Slatton.
Other item: Project updates
Slatton’s report to the Council included updates on several projects underway around the city, including:
- Stormwater construction is underway on the Main Street Streetscape, with hardscape demolition and construction to follow the week of April 14. Lane closures have also started and will continue until the project is done in November.
- The Durbin Creek Sewer Rehabilitation project is ongoing. The lining portion of the work is almost complete. Then, it will move into its manhole rehabilitation phase. The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2026.
- Plans for the Wall Street parking lot are completed, but bids for the parking lot revitalization project have been delayed due to permitting from the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services.
