The South Carolina State Election Commission unanimously approved Conway Belangia as its next executive director after a special called meeting on March 25.
Belangia has served as the director of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections in Greenville County for 34 years.
He has worked as an elections official for more than four decades, including with the State Election Commission and in Orangeburg County.
“I am honored and humbled to be chosen to lead the State Election Commission,” said Belangia. “I am committed to upholding the integrity, transparency, and accessibility of our state’s elections. I look forward to working with our team and partners at the state and local level to ensure every voter has confidence in the process.”
The State Election Commission’s executive director serves as the state’s chief election official and oversees the agency’s day-to-day operations. The position is subject to state Senate approval.
