Here’s a recap of Greenville County Council’s April 7 meeting:
Approved: County Council strategic priorities
Council approved a set of strategic priorities developed during a council planning retreat in early February and refined during subsequent Committee of the Whole meetings.
The priorities adopted include:
- Transparent and responsive government to strengthen public trust through accessible, timely and transparent communication
- Strategic growth in land use planning to guide responsible growth while preserving Greenville County’s character and natural resources
- Targeted economic development to attract high-quality jobs and investment while supporting existing business
- Physical stewardship and core services, including public safety, to maintain strong financial health by prioritizing essential government services
- Infrastructure and capital planning to address current infrastructure needs while preparing for future growth
The priorities are expected to help council and county government better engage with the public across a range of issues, many of them centered on the rapid growth the region is experiencing.
Approved: FILOT agreement with United Composite Materials
Council passed final reading of an ordinance authorizing a fee-in-lieu-of-tax agreement between the county and United Composite Materials LLC in support of the advanced carbon composite materials manufacturer to set up its first South Carolina operation in Greer.
The agreement calls for the company to make a minimum investment of $8 million to establish operations at an existing facility at 1446 S. Buncombe Road in Greer. The company announced in mid-March it would be investing $17.5 million and creating 50 new jobs.
The facility is expected to be operational this summer and will produce advanced carbon composite materials to serve the North American sports and leisure composites markets.
