Here is a recap of the city of Greenville’s Planning Commission meeting on May 7.
Approved: Conestee Dam annexation, rezoning
The commission recommended approval of an annexation and rezoning request for portions of two land parcels consisting of 7.56 acres off Conestee Road and Spanco Drive. The annexation request will need to go through first and second readings with Greenville City Council for final approval.
Conestee Nature Preserve owns one of the parcels located on the north side of the Reedy River. The requested zoning for the parcel is Park District (PK) to preserve it as natural green space.
The second parcel proposed for annexation contains the newly built Conestee Dam on the Reedy River. Lake Conestee Dam Restoration Project owns the property. According to the application, the Conestee Dam was not included in the original annexation of the Conestee Nature Preserve in 2018.
The portion of the parcel that contains the Conestee Dam is requested to be zoned PK. Mixed-Use 3 (MX-3) zoning is proposed for the other parcel located south of the Reedy River and next to the historic Conestee Mill, which is planned for redevelopment into a new mixed-use community.
