The Clemson University board of trustees announced Feb. 2 it approved over $129 million to fund a variety of project authorizations and improvements.
The 2024 projects include:
- Clemson Public Service and Agriculture Phase 1 budget – $232,000 for design work for the PSA Animal Farms.
- Clemson PSA Phase 2 budget – Over $15.4 million to construct the PSA Animal Farms.
- Clemson University Phase 1 budget – $10 million for design work for the Education & General portion of the College of Veterinary Medicine Project.
- Clemson University Phase 2 budget – $95 million to complete design work for the E&G portion of the College of Veterinary Medicine Project, begin initial site work and award early release packages for long lead time items such as HVAC equipment, electrical transformers and switchgear, and structural systems.
Other projects
- Kite Hill parking project – $4.2 million to create parking and transit improvements by adding 430 parking spaces, an easier connection from an outer area of campus and a connection to the newly installed multimodal path. The project is expected to be completed by August.
- Research infrastructure renovation project – $4.9 million to improve utilities on the southeast side of campus by upgrading existing infrastructure and increasing capacity for future development growth. The project will create capacity to service approximately 200,000 square feet of anticipated new construction on the southeast side of campus. It is expected to be completed by November.
During the two-day committee meetings, the board approved plans to create a Center for Human-AI Interaction, Collaboration, and Teaming, which will become part of the university’s College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. The CU-CHAI will focus on exploring how humans and AI can coexist and collaborate as well as providing interdisciplinary research in real-world settings and addressing growing concerns over workforce replacement and negative societal impacts.
The board also approved two degree name changes, including:
- The Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business’s Master of Science in Management degree will become the Master of Science in Sports Operations and Analytics.
- The College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences’ Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering degree will become the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering.
