Homes of Hope recently celebrated the grand opening of a new affordable housing community in Berea.
Lakeview at Berea, located at 8699 White Horse Road, offers 40 single-family homes to low- to moderate-income families. The community sits adjacent to Armstrong Elementary School. A ribbon cutting for the new community was held July 24.
“At Homes of Hope, we are always thrilled when we are able to offer more affordable housing, especially now in times of high need and low supply,” said Don Oglesby, president and CEO of Homes of Hope.
Twenty-two homes are for sale, priced from the mid-to-upper $200,000s. The 18 rental homes at Lakeview at Berea are available to households earning 30% to 120% of the area median income.
Each one- and two-story home features three-bedroom floor plans with either two bathrooms or 2½ bathrooms. The units range from approximately 1,200 to 1,400 square feet.
Scott Williams, director of real estate development for Homes of Hope, said the successful completion of Lakeview at Berea underscores how vital committed and diverse financial partners are to making affordable housing a reality.
The project’s key partners include:
- CommunityWorks Carolina
- South State Bank
- South Carolina Community Loan Fund
- Greenville County Redevelopment Authority
- Wells Fargo
- South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Office of Mental Health
- Oobe Apparel Design Group
- Grace Church
“Each partner brought something essential to the table — flexibility, innovation and a shared belief in the dignity of home,” Williams said. “Without that collective effort, projects like this simply wouldn’t happen.”
