Residents in need can now access essential resources at the city of Greenville’s new ICARE CommUnity Hub.
The city’s Community Development Division launched the pilot program to connect residents with local organizations providing wraparound services. These services include workforce and economic development, mental and physical health resources, food assistance, and affordable housing support.
The ICARE CommUnity Hub will be housed at the Sears Recreation Center in McPherson Park starting Jan. 8. The hub will be open to residents from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every other Thursday each month.
“We’re here to offer face-to-face services,” said Monique Mattison, the city’s community development manager. “So if you walk in, you have a person to talk to.”
Approximately 25 nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups and service providers are involved in the ICARE CommUnity Hub. Mattison said the program was designed to support these organizations and address their gaps in service. The hub offers a centralized location for providers to come together and create a collaborative resource network for residents.
One of ICARE CommUnity Hub’s providers is Genesis Home, a local affordable housing nonprofit. Alex McNair, executive director of Genesis Homes, said 15 new units of affordable housing are slated to begin construction in 2026.
“We’re going to need families to fill those homes,” McNair said. “It’s going to be great to have this network of relationships throughout the nonprofit ecosystem that supports this part of our community to find people who really need affordable housing.”
Additional organizations involved in the city’s new ICARE CommUnity Hub include Unity Health on Main, Walt’s Waltz, The Girls Academy, Mill Village, New Horizon, Parish House, Heart of Compassion, Loving and Gentle Care, and more.
A centralized client intake system will be used to collect information on the residents visiting the ICARE CommUnity Hub. Mattison explained that each visitor will be connected to the specific organization at the hub that can provide the resources and services they need.
“We’re a community. We want to rely on each other,” Mattison said. “We want to be a community that takes care of itself.”
