Caine Halter Family YMCA in Greenville will undergo an expansion with the help of a $6 million capital campaign.
A groundbreaking for the project was held Oct. 16. Renovations will begin with installing a retractable enclosure system over the outdoor pool to allow for year-round use. Additional elements of the expansion include:
- Repurposing the existing tennis courts into accessible, multi-use courts for tennis, pickleball, basketball, volleyball and small-sided soccer
- Enhancing the outdoor sports fields and track
- Creating a 5,000-square-foot outdoor pavilion with new restrooms
- Refreshing the multi-use gymnasium

Enhancements to the almost 63-year-old Caine Halter Family YMCA on Cleveland Street are aimed at increasing and improving its offerings for the growing Greenville community. The recreational facility currently serves over 12,000 people.
Diana Watson, YMCA of Greenville’s senior vice president and chief philanthropy officer, said the retractable pool enclosure will be ready between now and the end of the year.
“The plan now is as money is raised for this project, we’re able to do the next portion of the project,” Watson said.
To fund the expansion, YMCA of Greenville recently launched the public phase of the Building a Brighter Tomorrow campaign. The capital campaign has raised $3.15 million to date.
“Once completed, this campaign will result in a stronger YMCA that has the resources necessary to carry out our time-honored mission to provide a place for all people, regardless of their ability to pay, to build healthy mind, body and spirit,” said Scot Baddley, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greenville.
